We professionally admisinster a variety of different high quality cosmetic surgery products.

    • Dermal Fillers
At Refine we use clinically approved and regulated products sourced direct from the manufacturer or specialist UK aesthetic pharmacies. Of the hundreds of products being used in the UK currently only a few have US FDA (United States Federal Drug Administration) approval.
Refine use dermal fillers that have met with this approval. These are the best products with proven safety track records available to aesthetic practitioners in order to achieve a smoother, more natural and youthful looking skin. Refine choose to use these products so that your results are pleasing and also to reduce the possibility of any physical harm.
    • Hyalauronic Acid Dermal Fillers
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is produced and occurs naturally in our skin, it delivers nutrients and helps the skin retain its natural moisture, volume and softness. As we age, HA diminishes. Almost half of the body’s HA is located in the collagen of the skin. HA retains over 1000 times its weight in water within the cells of the skin and is instrumental in smoothing, softening and decreasing wrinkles. HA also helps remove waste matter from cells.
HA Dermal fillers are non-permanent as the body continually destroys these molecules, this is why HA Dermal fillers require repeated treatments to maintain a more youthful look. Whilst this amounts to a continued cost to the client, the benefits of HA dermal fillers are that this product degenerates naturally over time unlike other permanent products that have been popular in the past such as silicone.
Studies are now indicating that HA can improve skin hydration, stimulate production of collagen in the skin, work as an antioxidant and a free radical scavenger, maintain skin elasticity, cushion joints and nerve tissues, and has an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activity.
Some fillers contain a small amount of local anesthetic (lidocaine), which helps to improve the comfort of the injection.
    • Botulinum Type ‘A’ Toxin
In the cosmetics industry this injectable toxin is commonly given the name ‘Botox’ but is sold under many different brand names. Botox is the most popular cosmetic surgery treatment in the world with more than 6 million Botox treatments administered each year.
Botulinum toxin can be injected into humans in extremely small concentrations and works by preventing signals from the nerve cells reaching muscles, effectively leaving the muscles without instructions to contract, therefore relaxing them. The effects of these muscle relaxing injections are temporary and therefore symptoms will gradually return approximately 4 months after your injection. Botox is a prescription only medicine.

      Hyalauronic Acid Dermal Fillers

    • What is Lip Enhancement?
Full, plump lips are often associated with youth and beauty, however, lips come in all shapes and sizes, some of us naturally have thinner lips with less volume than others. Also, as we age it is natural that we gradually lose lip volume and lip definition which causes our lips to become thinner over time.
Lip enhancement treatment is chosen by women of all ages who either have naturally thin lips, have lips that have become thinner with age and lost their definition, or who would like added definition and volume for purely aesthetic reasons.  Dermal fillers have now been specifically designed to improve fullness in the lip body and provide improved definition of the lip border and surrounding anatomical structures.
The dermal fillers used at REFINE incorporate a local anaesthetic, lidocaine, for a more comfortable treatment experience as the lips are highly sensitive.
    • Additional pain relief
Local Nerve Infiltration. Although lips are particularly sensitive, many individuals undergo dermal lip filler procedures with no additional anaesthetic. However, if preferred you can choose to undergo a lip/dental nerve block which provides total pain relief for the duration of the procedure and for a short period post procedure. Topical cream/gel anaesthetic products can also be used to reduce any discomfort at the injection sites.
    • Common Side Effects
Although this varies between individuals, the lips and surrounding area may be red and some individuals may experience significant swelling and bruising post treatment. Swelling can initially appear uneven, but this will settle and resolve over a period of days, although though this may take up to 14 days if severe. Gentle cold compresses or ice packs will sooth and help reduce swelling. Paracetamol should manage any discomfort. Arnica gel/cream may help to reduce bruising if it occurs.
If you are prone to oral herpes simplex/cold sores, this treatment can occasionally reactivate this virus causing a cold sore to develop. If you do develop a cold sore it can be treated with your usual preferred method and product. You can pre-treat this area prior to treatment with products available from the pharmacy, however, we will not inject fillers if you have a cold sore present at your consultation.
    • Post Lip Dermal Filler Treatment
It is advisable not to exercise, drink alcohol, use sun beds/sauna’s on the same day post treatment. In order to reduce the risk of bruising avoid taking aspirin or ibuprofen for 48 hours post procedure.
Lip enhancement with hyaluronic acid fillers will usually last approximately 6-9 months before a 'top-up' treatment is required, however, this depends on the amount of filler injected and your own individual response.
The products used by REFINE are non-permanent and will be reabsorbed naturally overtime.

    • Hyalauronic Acid Dermal Fillers

    • How long does the treatment take?
After your consultation and when you are happy to proceed the treatment will take approximately 30 minutes. A fine needle or cannula is used to inject the HA into the specific area(s) being treated.
    • Will this treatment hurt?
This product is injected and so there will be some minor discomfort, however, these dermal fillers have been designed to integrate into your own skin tissue, and our products are available integrated with local anaesthetic which helps to reduce discomfort during and post procedure.
    • How will I feel after treatment?
Some patients will experience some swelling or redness after injection which usually subsides quickly. A little make up can be applied to disguise this. You can return to your daily routines immediately following treatment. The aim of this treatment is to provide you with a natural but improved look but this should feel normal as the product integrates easily with your own tissue. The aesthetic results of this treatment are immediate.
    • How long does the dermal filler last?
Clinical trials indicate that visible improvements can last for up to 9-12 months with many patients opting for a follow up treatment at the end of this period to maintain a more youthful appearance.
    • Are there any side effects?
The dermal fillers used by Refine are based on hyaluronic acid, a natural component of the skin, therefore as they are less likely to cause an allergic reaction no preliminary allergy test is necessary. However, there are some injection related reactions which may occur, these include; slight redness, swelling, itching and occasionally bruising and pain at the injection site. These reactions are completely normal and are generally mild to moderate in nature and usually disappear shortly after your treatment. Any risk involved in this treatment will be discussed with you during your medical consultation.
If you are pregnant or a nursing mother treatment is not recommended at this time.

    • Botulinum Type ‘A’ Toxin

    • What can you expect from wrinkle reducing injections?
By reducing the movement of muscles in these areas, the skin stops being creased and is allowed to recover, causing lines to soften and gradually fade away. In the areas treated, the muscles are temporarily inactivated (always reversible), during which time the patient can break the subconscious habit of over using these muscles. Depending upon each individual and the dose used, the response to treatment can vary. For the first couple of years, more frequent treatments are required to ‘re-educate’ the facial muscles. Thereafter, treatments would be less frequent until a yearly maintenance treatment is normally all that is required.
    • How safe is botulinum ‘A’ toxin?
In high concentrations botulinum toxin is a potent poison. However the doses used in cosmetic therapy are minute and have an extremely high margin of safety.
    • Are there any side effects?
Side effects of this treatment are rare. Most patients find that the injection causes only mild discomfort. Very occasionally a temporary drooping of the eyelid can occur. This may last a few weeks but will always resolve. In extremely rare cases some patients have developed an allergy to this product, while others have shown resistance to the product and the treatment has little or no effect on muscle movement. Any risk involved in this treatment will be discussed with you during your medical consultation. If you are pregnant or a nursing mother treatment is not recommended at this time.

    • Patient Consent
It is a legal and ethical standard that valid consent is obtained before treatment is administered. This gives patients the right to determine what happens and is a fundamental part of good practice. For a patient to give ‘valid consent’ an exchange of information must take place. The signing of a consent form does not in itself constitute consent; likewise, the absence of a signature does not in itself mean that informed consent has not been given. A patient will not be legally competent to give consent if they are unable to comprehend and retain information material to the decision and/or they are unable to weigh and use this information in coming to a decision (Mental Capacity Act, 2005). Informed consent at Refine Medical Aesthetics requires:
      • Explanation to the patient (verbal and written)
      • Time for patients to consider their decision
      • Discussion of treatment and concerns
      • Answering the patients questions
      • Signing of the consent form by patient and clinician
      • Pre and post photographs
